Quote
What happens when a dozen students from Houston travel to the desert for the very first time? Many of these teens have never been out of their neighborhoods. They've never been on a river, never climbed a hill, never even sat around a campfire. Follow their adventures at Big Bend Ranch State Park, one of Texas' last wild places.

This is one of the things I really enjoyed about being a Scout leader. Many of my Scouts were very seasoned travelers, throughout Mexico. It was fun taking them to Houston for an Astros game, they watched Clemens pitch. We visited a bunch of cool places out of the Rio Grande Valley. We did laugh when a Ranger told us we HAD to visit Santa Elena Canyon, because that's Mexico across there! Mexico!

Yeah, five of the kids he was speaking to were born in Mexico and all of us live on the border. But we got the point and it was an opportunity to talk about experiences that they took for granted that other kids would think were interesting or cool.
Everything is in walking distance if you have enough time.
