It's on my list of unfinished hikes. We tried it on a rather warm day in May 2000. We had to turn around short of the waterfall as we were running late on time and the floor of the canyon was choked with overgrown river cane. I'd like to give it another shot, only when the temp is significantly less than the 105+ we had that day.

I recommend it.  You are talking about the hike from 170, right? Give yourself most of the day.  I think it's about 10 miles RT to the falls pour off.

I have a few pics and trip report here: http://www.bigbendchat.com/portal/forum/your-trip-reports/3-days-in-big-bend/msg79169/#msg79169

The canyon was nice but as others have mentioned, not too much fun when temps are over 100 degrees. I did get poison ivy of some kind from hiking this trail I think too. It is overgrown in some places, so you'll have to do some bushwacking possibly. I calculated the distance to be at least 11 miles RT so it will take you a good 6 hours RT as you are hiking on loose rocks a lot of times.

Enjoy! :-)

Poison Oak is very common in a lot of places in that region.

I didn't hike the canyon, but on a 4x4 tour with the Park's Supt in February in the (very light) snow, I did get this video from the top of the canyon.

Barrett told us that they had been working to clear the trails along the canyon prior to our visit...

I've no idea what you're talking about!?  If you're insinuating that I'm stealing someone else's images and putting them on my blog you're full of crap.  Every one of those images are mine.  If you're just busting my balls and giving me a hard time that's fine - bring it.  But if you're saying I have stolen someone else's work and calling them my own then we have a problem.
