That makes me feel better, because 4 wheel drive apparently really is necessary.  You made me wonder if the ranger was being straight with us and apparently he was.  When we pulled into headquarters there was a new Ford truck just scratched to hell.  We ended up pretty scratched up too but it's a 10 year old truck and we really don't care.  My truck has been scratched up for years and my attitude is, it's a truck it ain't supposed to be pretty as long as it does its job.

what were the roads like ? did you need 4wd. is high clearance enough?

my friend's 2wd silverado made it down and back up fresno canyon, with just a little bit of trouble. the brush was almost the worst part.

cjacob, you wouldn't want to bring your shiny range rover out there, i bet paint isn't covered under the warranty, or the countless repairs that brand of vehicle is renowned for  :eusa_whistle:

Nor is the fog lights.  I break'em and its scrached to hell.   The detail guy LOVES me at the shop.  We did over 100 miles in AZ on old Stage Coach Routes, Had to drive over downed tress up to 1' in dia.  Pull down trees out of the way.  Was a lot of fun.

Al,

Just curious, was that a green F-150 with full back cab that was there about the 2nd?

No, it may have been a buddy of mine who was there with me.  You'd think that after introducing him to this incredible place, that he wouldn't still be so pissed at me about his truck.  I think, though, that we had left by the 3rd.  If you also saw a blue scratched to hell Toyota Tundra with full cab, it was probably us.

Looks like you now call the Sauceda HQ to make reservations for campsites and backcountry permits.

Campsite and backcountry reservations may be made in advance by calling(432) 358-4444 between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. Permits must be picked up in person.

We called to make reservations before our January trip and they laughed and asked why?  For at least a day or two we were the only campers in the entire interior portion of the park.  I'm sure spring break is different but it still shouldn't be hard to get the sites you want.
