Vehicle Required to Get to Saucedo HQTRS
« on: October 02, 2016, 05:01:35 PM »
I have a 2015 Ford 150 extended cab 302 V8 2X4 - will that get me there?

My friend has a Toyota Highlander - will that get them there?

Leave "quit" at the car.  Embrace the trail as your friend.  Expect to enjoy yourself, and to be amazed.

Easily.  Just make sure you have good tires (meaning not almost worn out) and don't drive too fast since the igneous rocks in the state park  can be harder and sharper than the limestone common to the national park.

Driving the speed limit (25mph) is the key here. We get a lot of folks who think they are running a baja offroad rally and inevitably they are the ones who flat out on the main park road. The other roads in the park are significantly rougher owing to the rains, but those rigs should be fine to get you to the Solitario and probably the Oso Loop or even Guale Mesa. The road into Fresno Canyon is currently closed but you can drive to the overlook at the top of La Posta Hill. If in doubt, call the ranger station to inquire as to conditions.

UPdate: our Highlander made it with ease - as did the FIAT 500 that parked next to us at the headquarters
