First time in Black Gap
« on: May 01, 2018, 09:40:48 PM »
We're almost there!
That's what the fastest land animal in North America signifies to us.

At least if you're driving in from the "Metromess" as my motorcycling buddy Bob calls it.
You can call him "Boob", though. He answers to that. His line of reasoning is "hey, everyone likes boobs".
We're excited about BGWMA. We've seen the signs, read about it, talked about it and now it's time to explore it.
Boob and Nature Boy Fat Adam in Black Gap WMA.
What could go wrong?
We turn on 2627 and head downhill. It's been about 8 hours of cutting up, laughing, sleeping, eating, laughing and laughing; a couple of overgrown kids still playing outdoors.
We hit our first spontaneous stop and we're pretty excited.

I have to tell ya'll that we're motorcyclists that like to explore remote areas, not hikers per say. But, we only ride on existing roads and are totally against tearing up undisturbed land and law breaking and such.
Black Gap has a combined 200 or so miles of roads we CAN ride on, so here we go. The orange peeking out must mean HQ central, time to sign in.

Now that looks like the start of something good... or bad.

So right to the left you see the remnants of this old homestead, I guess. We were told it hasn't been used in 60 years + or -. I can't confirm or deny that, but I can confirm it was a pretty cool little place.

I think a resourceful man could be pretty happy here. Hopefully a breeze blows through this saddle.

Home sweet home, ma!

This looked like it was living quarters as well at some point in time. Maybe someone will chime in here? Ya'll seem very knowledgable on the area. Between the three of us, Me, myself and I, we've just cracked the book open.

Like the kids say "let's blow the roof off this sucker".

Oops!
There's one of those thing-a-ma-jigs.

That was cool. It really conjures up images in your head about the daily happenings out here in the quiet.
Not to far down the road is where you see the double mills.

Let's head on down the road. What could possibly go wrong here?
Or here?

Ah, the Roman Coliseum. Always wanted to see that.

Now wait just a minute, that's cool! Let's go check it out.

Yes, coolness.

On to the front porch.

And how about that river view? Sort of...

So, ya'll come on in and stay awhile.
Coincidentally, all my old girlfriends have been here.

I guess someone needed a fire place??? Lol. It was 95°at the river and 73°on top.

Down in a hole.

The place had a spooky feeling. I always felt like someone was watching us. You're in a bowl surrounded by the cerros. There's no breeze. The river likes to hide in its own arroyo forcing you to drop inside. There's convenient shelter as well.

I think it's just the 'new' playing on me. Those are friendly bullet holes. I'm sure of it.

Now on a serious note, we found lots a brass by these fishing camps. I found some 6.5 Grendel, which is a round used by someone who should know better.
The place is not a gun range, folks. Pretty much everything was shot up. Not cool.
On a lighter note. These things hurt.
