If you have your Lifestraw handy, this sucker is full of water.

Oh wait, there's a river right there, duh!

Let's get a drink.

The cane was on fire for 8 miles with no where to go but out.

At this point I started getting sick. Something was weird with the gas tank vent on my bike and fumes were pouring out. There was no wind in the giant bowl and I couldn't get away from  the smell. The only thing to do was ride out and reasonably fast.
We got back to the truck at campsite #7 and loaded the bikes. Boob said I looked green. I felt green.
I cranked the a/c on high and tried not to puke. We're creeping along and "ding" "ding" "ding".
Me (NBFA): What's that about?
Boob: Oh, that just the tire pressure monitor saying the left rear tire is low.
NBFA: Ugh...
Boob: 14...12...10... We're flat, bubba.
Black Gap got us!
Out onto the caliche, sweating and cussing we get the spare on and roll dirty up to HQ.
There's a cute little redhead in cutoffs in the yard frolicking around. I must be hallucinating at this point, thinking about my wife, she's a cute redhead. The Black Gap has got me bad.
Boob is signing us out. I stagger over to the fence.
NBFA: "Ya'll got any tire plugs?"
CLRHICS: "I bet he does".
A wiry, sun baked man comes over, plugs the tire. Analyzing us the entire time, he plugs it again. At 35lbs of air, the tread separates.
WSBM: Alpine has a tire store.

The Black Gap got us.

Those were my pictures up until I started getting sick. Boob, he has his own iPhone 1 pictures.
When I get'em, you get'em.
Thanks for for this sharing platform.

Enjoying your pictures and commentary, I hope you have more.Or Boob comes thru with some. You got me curious about BG and its history. How did you land on that (BG) as the place you were going to explore ?
How would you rate the roads in Black Gap (if one is driving a truck) ?  ie. High clearance or 4wd only or don't go there or
what ?

I think he just stirred a sleeping bear.  I think I just felt a movement in the Force, like a million Benders salivating over a new place to explore....

How would you rate the roads in Black Gap? High clearance or 4wd only or don't go there or what ?

The Trooper, with a new tranny, just came out of the shop yesterday.....

Hey Alan,
Thank you. There is so much left of BG that we didn't explore.
You will need a Texas Limited Public Use permit. It was $12, don't know about non resident. If you like to fish there's 25 fishing camps along the river.
I don't have much history and need to research it myself. There's a lot of roads and a crappy map when you sign in. 10ply tires are a good idea. The roads are easily traversed at low speeds, but very rocky. High clearance 2wd with quality 4 ply tires (not Goodyear) would probably get by. Bring plugs, spares and a compressor.
Read up on the closure dates around November and call 432.376.2216 for info. Plan on staying a few days as it's slow going. Very interesting place and coupled with some time in the State & National Parks would make for a great vacation.
P.s. I'm not fat. Haha.

          P.s. I'm not fat. Haha.
Didn't mean to imply anything !     I just misread and then abbreviated your screen name.
Thanks for the additional info. I drive a 4wd f150 with 6 ply tires and 2 spares. No plugs  - I guess I better get versed in those. they can be useful at the Ranch (State Park)  as well.       Would you say BG roads are better, worse, or about the same as the Ranch ?

Does this BlackGap make my butt look big? Haha!
The main roads used by staff are decent. The little campsite roads are rougher. Some roads on their map, as we found out, are not in existence anymore. I didn't see an cause for great alarm. Your vehicle will be fine.
Come on down!

I’d like to know more about this feature, where is it or it even on the Texas side?

Hey Don,
I wish I could say for sure. There's 25 camps along the river and we turned around at about #17 because of my bike trying to kill me. Perspective wise while there, I believe it to be in Mexico.
It was a good distance off. You have to take the main road past HQ all the way to the river and follow it East.
I called it Casa Pequeno.

Based on Adam's description, this may be "Casa Pequeño," in which case, it is in Mexico.
