Title: River access?
Post by: westtex on February 19, 2007, 02:12:35 PM
Does anyone know if they allow people to launch river trips from their access point?

I've launched canoes for day trips at one of the fish camps and pull out down the river at another fish camp.   I don't think it's "technically legal" mind you.

The Black Gap Wildlife Management Area does not allow put-ins for Lower Canyons trips.

But, I don't see anything in the BGWMA rules prohibiting it.  I have seen guide services down at the BGWMA area.

I will probably give Mike a call...but I did see on Far Flung's website where they launch from Black Gap to do lower canyon trips.
Title: black gap boat launch

I was just at Black Gap a few weeks ago and I did not see anything prohibiting boat launches.  My guess is that you just have to pay the use and entrance fee.  Call 'em and ask.  There is also still the launch site on the US side of the La Linda bridge.  You could probably do a nice 1-3 day trip by putting in there and taking out at one of the Black Gap fish camps.  As long as you have two high clearance vehicle it would be an easy shuttle.  Or the folks at Stillwell Ranch can do shuttles for you (which might be safer than leaving a vehicle unattended along the river for several days).
