Boquillas Canyon Float Info
« on: February 26, 2010, 03:12:02 PM »
Not seeing much recent info on Boquillas Canyon. Anyone know if you still have to get permission and pay to take out at La Linda? Also, I haven't found any published guidebooks or similar info for this stretch. Anyone know of any? Heading down for Spring Break and have never done this stretch. Are there plenty of areas to camp in the canyon itself and does anyone have any particular recommended spots that have nearby good hiking in the canyon? Thanks in advance.

I would check with the outfitters in Terlingua about the current info on La Linda but it shouldn't be a problem.  I haven't been down the canyon since the big flood.  There used to be and probably still is a soil bank on the Mexico side right past a formation called Rabbit Ears that is an ideal campsite.  It's about 1/2 way between Boquillas and La Linda so it makes for a perfect trip with two days on the river and however long you want to camp.  There is a canyon that goes to an old Candellila camp that is a pretty neat hike or you can just climb around the campsite.  Again I would ask an outfitter in Terlingua about whether the bank is still there.
