Minimum flow for Santa Elena boomerang?
« on: October 31, 2011, 06:14:50 AM »
I'm heading out to the park in a couple of weeks.  With the low water flows (again  :'( ), it looks like one of the only options is a "boomerang" trip into the mouth of Santa Elena, upstream, turn around, and then back the way we came.  The flow at Castolon is a measly 23cfs.  Is a boomerang trip even feasible in such a low flow?

I would call one of the outfitters and see if they are still going upstream... and bring a tow rope for dragging past the sandbars!  :icon_mrgreen:

MyLifeOutdoors has done it, although his trip report doesn't specify the gauge height or flow level of the river.

There is bound to be some portaging/dragging over sand bars but I guess it all depends on one's tolerance for such things.

Good luck and please tell us what to expect.  :eusa_dance:
