Rafting in Late May
« on: January 14, 2011, 08:47:20 AM »
My husband and I are planning our first trip to BiBe in late May.  We've been told that the weather is pretty brutal at this time of year, particularly near the river.  Would a rafting trip this time of year be a ridiculous idea due to the heat?

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

I have done Santa Elena in late May (in canoes) and the heat wasn't a problem but the water level was. You should check with the outfitters....Far Flung, Big Bend River Tours, Desert Sports. They will probably say that the water level will determine the trip at the time.
There's got to be something better than

Echoing the Muse, May is before the rainy season, which is why it's typically the hottest month and water levels are a problem for rafting trips.

On water levels, I have been to Ernst Tinaja about a half a dozen times. Once, in May, I found it to be completely empty.

Thanks for the info.  I'll contact the outfitters for their input.
