This from today's Daily Report;
Current Park Conditions:
The Chisos Basin Campground is closed until Nov 15. Road construction is ongoing on the road to
Terlingua and the road to Persimmon Gap, expect traffic delays. Boquillos Canyon Rd and Rio Grande
Village campground are closed from 9am-6pm today. There is no overnight parking at the Santa Elena
boat ramp/take out until further notice. There will be planned and monitored wildland fires along the
south rim of the Chisos.

We talked to the supervisor working the camp ground the other day and the delay in the camp ground closure is problems with the trucks dont have j brakes (???) plus some have broken down, along with a host of other problems

One thing is for sure, any trucks coming down green gulch using engine compressing braking; you certainly will HEAR them coming...

Does anyone know when the Basin campground is re-opening? What kind of crowds should I expect in early November, not Thanksgiving week?

it may not be open until mid November.  The construction crew working on that ran into some equipment delays/ malfunctions. The camp sites in the park are usually not crowded during that time of year, mainly the lodge rooms are booked up.

it can get down into the low 30's at night in the park, then up to the 80's during the day.

We just received word late today that the Basin campground is scheduled to re-open Monday, November 15.  There will probably not be a new map until after the reservation period ends [April 15 of next year].  At that time some of the sites may receive new numbers, and then new maps may be posted online or on the reservation website.  Until then, the reservable sites are in the same places, and some of the roads have been rerouted. Those who have been able to do a walk through say it is much improved.
Just in time for the holidays. :eusa_dance:
