IS there a favorite reservable site in RGV ? I am running in the Big Bend Ultra in Jan. and I am afraid to just hope for an empty site when I get there.

I don't have a favorite, but there currently appears to be plenty of sites available during the week of The Big Bend Ultra Run.

R.W.

I did the run three years ago and stayed in RGV. The campground didn't fill and I didn't see a lot of runners. The race organizers had reserved the group area for tent campers but we wanted to stay somewhere that might be quieter. Little did we know that a group would get in late and party all night.  :banghead:

Just be aware, it gets really cold down along the river as the cold air sinks. I would expect it to be down in the 20's most mornings in January.

Most of the campsites at RGV are in the large open, grassy area beneath the cottonwoods.  I don't like those sites because there is no privacy and you can see everyone else's cars/RVs/tents, etc.  I prefer the sites in the brush over on the edge of the campground.  These sites are close to everything, but they offer a great deal more privacy than the open sites. My personal favorites are 16-18 because they are secluded (they don't even face the open campground).  As a bonus, these sites are right next to the beaver pond trail.  Sites 22-36 are also tucked away in the brush.
