Rio Grande Village showers
« on: December 01, 2010, 11:23:17 AM »
It's been a while since I've stayed in one of Bibe's developed campgrounds so I'm out of the loop.  How much for the Rio Grande Village showers and how much time does that buy?

$1.50 in quarters for about 5 minutes. I believe the laundromat and bathrooms with showers are open 24/7. They have a change machine inside, or if the store is open, they're usually happy to make change.

The store closes at 7:00 (but may close earlier in the summer) and the showers and laundry are closed at 8:00

I thought I saw a sign at the store saying the laundromat area was open all day, but I wouldn't count on my memory. The park's web page hasn't been updated since 2006. You could always call the store and ask (432-477-2293).

Inside the Park
Public showers are available at the Rio Grande Village Store. The showers and public restrooms are usually open 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM (varies seasonally). The showers are coin-operated and provide 5 minutes of shower time for $1.50. No amenities are provided; soap, shampoo, and other items may be purchased at the Rio Grande Village Store.

Outside the Park
Public showers are also available outside of the park in the Study Butte/Terlingua area.

I should've taken a picture of the sign (for Homero, of course).

I'd give being slightly out of date on the shower hours at RGV a minus 0.1 points on the Big Bend knowledge/credibility rating system and negligible compared to your contributions.  Over nearly 40 years of Big Bend trips I have trouble remembering how many times I've showered in the park, maybe twice.  But then I am an Aggie!

Is nothing!

Al, i'm an Aggie as well.  As such, I usually take my 'Aggie Shower' along on extended trips to the park:

I thought I was the only one who used a pump sprayer, helps keep the insects away if you use the wrong one which I have. :rolling:

Buck, very very nice . . . but that looks really complicated.  We would probably fail due to operator error unless we had detailed written procedures and even then it took us years to learn to follow the directions on the waterless shampoo and baby wipes!

i agree: in 6 days i never showered, just poured water over my head and body from my 25gal water bag,at my primitive campsite. Hope, that was not against the desert etiquette!!!
Besides, the sweat so quickly evaporates due to the aridity, one never feels dirty or smelly!

You brought a 25 gallon (94.5 liter) water bag!?  My goodness, what were you driving?
