Forum Software Upgrade Notice
« on: July 20, 2011, 03:31:01 PM »
UPGRADE NOTICE! - We will be upgrading the site to the latest version of software.  During the move, the current version will not be touched and you will be able to negotiate through the site as normal.  However, after the move, there may be some features/options not working or not even available after the move.   This is going to be a fresh install and a database move.  This should solve any issues that have been experienced since the last server move.  There should be very little to no downtown during this upgrade! Thanks!

NOTE: This is not a server move, rather a software upgrade.

I was hoping not to have to do this, but the upgrade is going to be a bit more complex than I anticipated.  The forum will have to be shut down for an hour or two (probably not till tomorrow, I'll let you know when) during the transition.

There will be casualties during this move.  I'm sorry, but it is necessary.  Over the years, there have been several modifications made, tweaks to the database and it is causing problems when upgrading.  So, I've decided to start from scratch and try to transition as much data as possible to the new database.  There are a few pieces of data that you should not worry about: all forum messages should remain in tact; all forums, their names, etc. should remain in tact; personal messages should remain in tact (although I would appreciate it if you would prune your personal message list yourself); member list should remain in tact; gallery pics should remain in tact; attachments to messages should remain in tact; avatars should remain in tact .  These are essential to the forum and will be forwarded to the new database.

However, there are somethings that just won't make it, such as Member Map will be history.  Although I still have everyone's old bookmarks, they will not be making a comeback at this time.

When the move is complete, the forum will open back up.  After the forum is open again, do not panic, it is not the drugs you are taking, you may see things differently.  The good news is, we should have a stable platform to work from from this point out.

Any questions or concerns, please post them here.

thanks,
David

Question: Given that the Bookmarks will not survive the upgrade and you are telling us that you still have them.   Is it possible that you  could put them up, for a limited time so we can copy them (links) to a Word doc, per say. Then when you put up the new site, i am sure there will be the option of the Bookmarks once again. We can just paste them on and re-bookmark our old subjects?.

   Just a thought.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

Yes I like the bookmarks as well. I am going to try and reimplent them eventually, I just don't know when.  Homero, nice suggest buy it would be easier, I think, to try and make it work like it's supposed to. ;)

Site will be down shortly for a couple of hours.  If you have made any profile changes, received or sent personal messages in the last 24 hours, they will not survive the move.  However, I will repopulate the new database with the latest messages and members.  The shut down is necessary to preserve the integrity of the board.

thanks,
David

OK, I don't what this problem is, but we've got an issue with the reply page.  It seems it wants to horizontally scroll!  >:(

David, only your posts are showing on the Forum page and not the posts between you and Homero, etc. on bookmarks.  Plus this box is hugely wide!

Yes, I addressed the wide issue.  Should be working.  Log out, close browser, clear cache, should work after that.  You can't see Homero's post?  Odd, anyone else having that problem?
