For what it's worth, it's not just you. I can view all profiles, but that's because of my Moderator superpowers. When I log on with a test account (i.e. as a regular member) I get the same error message. Looks like Casa Grande will have some database debugging to do tonight...

nope, no problems...it means what it means, "you can't view just any profile"....only the Administrator, the Moderator and Golden Eagle members may view member's profiles, sorry.  If there is information you need about a particular member, I suggest you contact the member directly, otherwise, you can view member profile information, ie., homepage, yahoo id, etc. from the member profile avatar space to the left of this message.

One method would be to use the advanced search for the given member name. There's no garauntee of getting a list of every post that way as you have to enter keywords (2 char. minimum) on which to search.

Yep, really miss being able to view posts from my favorite benders.  Problem with searching by name is if they have a name that is a common word, you get tons of stuff you really didn't want.  Oh, well, ....time to start thinking about Golden membership I guess.
Follow the writings of the old men, for they knew more than you or I.

Also, I believe the Email feature is currently restricted to Golden Eagles as well.

So why can't I get someone's e-mail if its provided next to the avatar space? I provided my e-mail, and I can't even see my own e-mail address? I'm a Golden Eagle too.
Through the window and around the bend.
down the gap road, to the top of the rim...
                      I have been.

I have no idea what the current status is for emailing other members, as that's "beyond my domain". And technically, noone other than myself and Vista Grande have access to members' email addresses. The email button merely sends the other member an email on your behalf with your email address set as the reply-to address... or at least I think that's how it currently works...

Yes, it is something along those lines but more important. An email address is private until the owner posts it. He/She alone decides to what extent you want to expose your email adress, although the grand majority members of this board are very respectful of others point of view, there are those lurkers who are looking for an opportunity to nab your email and bombard you with spam mail or insultive messages you do not need to read.

This, of course does not limit you to write some one on this board and that person in turn can write you back with out both of the parties deciding they want to take their conversation outside of the boards security bounds. It is always, your call.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

The ability to view member profiles and send email has been restored. Hopefully if everyone behaves we won't have to disable it again.

Remember, in order for someone to be able to email you, the "Hide email address from public" box must be un-checked in your profile settings. And yes, that description is not accurate, as your email is visible only to the administrators/moderator (that's me and Vista Grande). When you use that feature to send someone email, they will receive it from bigbendchat.com with your email address listed as the return address. Just be sure and reply to the actual sender instead of admin@bigbendchat.com.

After our recent SPAM incident, I changed the permissions so that someone has to have made at least one post before they can email someone. And just FYI, of the current 1666 members here, 801 have never posted. Another 649 have yet to crack 20....

Correction: I'll change the permissions as soon as I figure out how to do it without goofing up other settings. :icon_rolleyes:
