Whoa, the dialog box keeps jumping back to the end of your message. First time I've seen this; keep having to drag the slider back down so I can see what I've typed.  And this is not the machine I've been talking about;  this one's relatively new, runs Vista Home Premium.
Welcome to my world.  I call it the "Sliding Death-Box of Text." Vista Home Ultimate, SP-whatever's current
Sounds it might be a Vista bug. I haven't seen anything remotely like that problem on either XP Home or Pro and IE7&8 plus Firefox.
Nope;  I'm using one with XP Pro now, and it't doing it, too.  Not on the line right against the quote, but anything after that.  This is also the machine that was locking up, but it haven't been able to get it to do that today.

Probably the North Koreans :icon_evil:

For the record, I use Internet Exploder on M$ XP machines at home and at my office. I've never seen those issues.

But I have seen plenty of trolls and their trollage on this site. Not sure if that's an M$ issue, but I wouldn't be surprised :icon_lol:

OK, I just posted a fairly long response on another thread, and it went fine until I ran past the text area that is seen when you start typing.  However, as soon as the box started to scroll to give me more room, it started "bouncing".  Hope this explanation makes sense.

IE7 & IE8 for me. btw, IEx never crashes itself, not does it freeze up -- I can always go to a new web page or hit the refresh on BBC. When it happens it'll load down to (but won't show) the horizontal bar with all the links (L to R: Home...Logout); nothing below this point will show. The little hourglass thingy is not still spinning, so it's not like waiting will solve the problem. Definitely the home page, and the 'Forum' link, and the 'New posts since you last visited' link. I'm not sure I ever remember it happening when I click on a thread -- it is upstream of that, if that makes any sense. I'll try disabling some gadgets to see if it has any effect. fyi I've got good 6+MB Comcast broadband, Vista.

FYI this no longer appears to be a problem for me. Two things have changed:

1) I closed a lot of home page 'widgets'
2) re-upped my GE, so no ads.

fwiw I suspect the latter was the issue...

Did I mention a spell checker?.... :icon_rolleyes: :rolling:

if you use internet explorer there is a handy add on called iespell
http://www.iespell.com/

I have been using it for about a year and it works well. it underlines the mis spelled words in red as you complete the word, gives you the option to add odd words to the dictionary, very similar to the spell checker in MS Word or outlook

James
Thanks James that seems to work well so far, I'm not sure I've got it set up right as I have to highlight the post and click on the tools for it to work, in other words it isn't underlining the words as I type them but it does it's thing when I call it up. I'm elated.  :eusa_dance: Thanks! :high5: Now whenever someone (IE user) mentions spell checker our hard working moderators can simply reply with a link to your post.

VG, if it helps any, that machine I'm talking about does somtimves lock up when loading BBChat, and always at the same place.  I get the frames and some of the ads, but it freezes with "Advertisement" in the brown bar;  never gets to the point where it says "Live Big Bend Chat".  And the areas where chat dialog/threads should appear are blank.  I've tried refreshing from there;  never works.

Roy,  can you do me a favor?  When it happens again, check the source code that is loaded copy the entire code and post it here or PM it to me. Be Sure to use the "Insert Code" button at the top of the post window (this would be the button ).  It will help me figure out what is hanging up.

to check source code for explorer: click "view" then "source"
it should open in notepad or some other text program.  Select all, copy and paste.

thanks,
david

Finally got it to hang up again; but had to send the code as ana ttachment. Hope that helps, VG.

roy,
the attachment is not a code, it's some sort of medical directory listing ??

Anyway, I'm having a hard time trying to get my XP/IE8 to lock up.   I'm using an incognito username which I use to test the site for normal users and no luck....when it locks up, what is the last thing that is being seen on the page?  Advertisement to the left of the screen? etc.

Thanks, Roy....did this start after the new Live Chat mod was installed at the top of the page?

Anywho, I think I've pinpointed the problem and I'm trying to figure a workaround.

I think so, but that was also pretty close to the time I downloaded IE8.

it's hard to fix a problem when I can't even see the problem myself!!   :willynilly:

Nope;  says "Advertisment" where it should say "Live Big Bend Chat";  the frames are there but just blank spaces; no dialog in the chat area or threads below that.

fwiw with IE8 + Vista this has not been a problem since I re-upped the GE. Have re-opened all the widgets & whatnot I closed earlier & still no freezeups.
