I have tried golf pull carts on trails since they work so well on golf courses.  Not all golf courses are smooth and pretty.  Many municipal courses are quite rough, expecially where I play from. This experiment came about many years ago when I was carrying lots of pounds of camera equipment around.

On the benign trails like to Pedernales Falls from the parking lot, it works great.  Some of the trails at Lake Livingston State Park, the Loop Trail at Enchanted Rock, and others in the PNW accept wheels nicely.  In other words a nice long day hike type of trail where you might have youngsters along with the need for more water and snacks etc than is nice to carry.

Just for giggles I tried it at Hill Country State Natural area and it was a dismal failure.  Surprisingly it was not the two wheels that caused the trouble.  It was the extra load up and down hill that caused the misery.  From my experiments, I certainly would not want the "wheelbarrow" strapped to me. For even the trail from Persimmon Gap to the pouroff, I would not attempt a cart.   Dog Canyon from the road to the creek bed would be nice, but that loose rock would definitely be wrong.

My final conclusion was NO.

Not sure of cost, but have used deer carts, large wheel and carry considerable weight.

That is the dumbest thing I've seen....not far from the "push my @ss up" mechanism..  :icon_rolleyes:

First thing I see is since this is strapped around your lower back, as soon as that wheel gets caught in a groove or rock, it's going to put pressure on your spine as the pack shifts....all I have to do is look at that thing and my back hurts!  :eusa_hand:

I’ve actually had thoughts about something like this for use on a “someday” hike to the point on the Mesa de Anguilla. In my someday hike I would haul water up and cache it and then return down and haul more up the next day. Followed by one or two days of rest and light day hikes and then climb up with some sort of homemade water hauler pack kind of thingy which I was going to make out of aluminum and bicycle wheels.  I thought there was only about a 5% chance that “someday” would ever come and even then less than a 10% chance that the idea might work. My someday water hauler would be hauled up in pieces and assembled up top. I was thinking of using two skinny 26” wheels and independent drop down axles for ground clearance so that I could straddle or plow through most vegetation that couldn’t be avoided. The device would double as a shelter when draped with a tarp.
Having never even been on top of the Mesa de Anguilla doesn’t bode well for my success, but then this would all happen in the “someday” world.
I hadn’t considered using only one wheel, which might be the way to go as long as some of the weight could be behind the axle so as to lessen the weight on my hips. Anyway thinking about the “someday” world helps the miles go by on long drives.  In actuality it would be more practical for me to get a second job and save up for a Sherpa.  Someday.  :eusa_whistle:
