Title: Barefoot Hiking
Post by: randell on April 29, 2008, 10:09:46 AM
Interesting development in footwear... (http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/products/products_KSO.cfm)  I guess as long as you don't have webbed toes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webbed_toes), polydactyly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polydactyly), or an aversion to stuff between your toes, it would work...

It looks like a hazmat suit for hiking.  I was looking at that before going to GUMO last year. (http://www.bigbendchat.com/portal/forum/gumo-general-discussion/gumo-or-bust-t2768.0.html;msg27493#msg27493)

Which is why you'll need a few pair of these:

Geez, why not just coat your feet in some Plasti Dip?

Although I imagine it would be fun to fill out the Solo Hiker Form (http://www.nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisit/bc_solo-hikers.htm) while wearing those "shoes".
...trying to nudge this discussion back on-topic...

I can see these shoe being handy for climbing, bouldering, and kayaking.  But trekking, running, fitness training, martial arts, yoga, pilates seems like a stretch.  I know when I went whitewater kayaking my water shoes were too big and I had to use water socks.  Water socks are not really tough-soled enough for walking on rocks to scout a route.  These look like a viable alternative for that.  I'm not sure they would be all that useful in climbing where you need the more pointed edge of a climbing shoe to wedge the tip of your foot in a crack...

Wow, just think what a Mountain Lion would do if he saw THAT coming at him on a trail ! !
The basin would be overrun with lions and bears running down in fear from Emory Peak...
