I've never seen a pair of gaitors made specifically for brush and thorns, but these look like they may help when your out in Big Bend bushwhacking.

Italian Army desert gaiters? Seriously? Are those left over from the desert campaign of 1941 or something?

hmmm...I don't think I'm seeing things:

if you click the image to enlarge, then click zoomable image, then go to max zoom on the strap buckles -- don't they look rusted? tarnished at best? something's going on there...

OR makes brush/thorn resistant gaiters and has for quite a few years:

Al, I notice that OR makes several models.  Which one are yours?

They look like Crocadiles.  I have a pair and I wouldn't dare take those out to Big Bend.  They would be tore up in no time and they're $50 instead of the $3.50 ones I posted.  People they're $3, the company will refund your money if you don't like them.  If you don't trust that they will be good quality, don't buy them, simple as that.

I've worn these gaiters hiking trails and cross country off-trail Zone camping in the lower desert of Big Bend numerous times without a single failure.  I've had them at least 15 years probably 20. I don't remember the model but they look like today's Crocodiles http://www.outdoorresearch.com/site/m_s_crocodiles.html  which are covered by OR's "Infinite guarantee" which I have yet to need to use.  I recommend them for desert hiking. If you run into a Spanish Dagger, you'll certainly know it, but the damage will be greatly reduced compared to blue jeans or bare flesh. These $3 gaiters look interesting but I have no experience with them like the ORs.  In my experience one should go for quality especially when failure can result in misery in the middle of nowhere.

No offense intended, Picacho...  I was just making an attempt at humor, as the style looks like something a WWII-era soldier would wear.  Definitely cheap enough that you wouldn't mind taking them through the brush, for sure.
