Christmas Came Early - Shoes & Tent!!
« on: December 22, 2008, 08:52:53 PM »
Waiting on the porch when I got home today was a new pair of hiking shoes I ordered last week. Score 1!

Tonight I won a tent I've been following on eBay. Score 2!

The shoes are low hikers by Asolo. Model is Exodus. Seems to be a close out from last year or before. Kinda light weight but with the right orthotic, should be fine for on-trail hiking with a pack.

The tent is a Big Agnes Seedhouse SL2. I talked myself into a two person tent, even though I'm going solo, so I'll have a little more room. The Eureka! Solitaire I have is barely more than a bivy and the BA only weighs a few more ounces so when I saw the auction price was within reason, I went ahead and bid. Low and behold, I was the high bid. Thanks Santa!

I'm set for the spring Marufo Vega hike! Other than the wide angle zoom I've been lusting after for the camera...and a warmer sleeping bag!
   Happy Holidays All!!

I don't think you'll regret going with a 2 man tent.  The weight increase is negligible, but the increased room for you and your gear will be well worth it.

I'm convinced that you're right dkerr24!

Eurekea Solitaire   ~ 3 pounds   Can't sit up, non-freestanding and no room for any gear.

BA Seedhouse SL2   ~ 6 ounces more   Plenty of room (spacious for one person!) plus it's freestanding.

For the extra weight I gain a tremendous amount of extra room. Worth it in my book. Absolutely critical if I encounter any inclement weather.

Should be a good thing to have more room!
  Happy Holidays!

You will most likely LOVE that tent!!! Remember to do it exhibitionist style at least once and sleep without the fly on... During the non-rainy season, of course! You will love being able to watch the shooting stars as you fall asleep! If you don't mind a bright night, you should go so far as to try this even if the moon is full. Being able to wake up and scan the horizon for moving critters at night rocks!!!
