Ok, I'm an idiot.  I recently put some dry ice in my Igloo 72 quart cooler w/o newspaper on the bottom and "cracked the bottom".  Any suggestions on repairs or should I just toss it.  Anything I do to it, I want it to be "ice safe" - in that I want to be able to dig ice out of it to use in my drinks, etc.

Have a yard sale/spring cleaning at the same time. Put all of it on some tables, and the college kids will eat it up for spring break trips. They're not so picky. Make some $, buy new cooler/camping equipment! 8)

No money.  Already have a huge 120qt Max Cold Igloo, of course, I do want one of the coolers that Randell has that out did me - he has one of the new 6 day coolers!

I'd vote for replacing, especially if you want to consume ice that is in the cooler. There might be a way to patch it but eventually, water will get underneath and into the foam insulation. 20 years is a pretty good lifetime for a cooler anyway.

What the heck? Does that thing have an adjustable off-road suspension????

Or is that a braking lever like the old wagons had to slow you down when headed downhill?

If cash flow were positive, I might replace.  But, I so seldom use it that I really don't need a big new cooler.  I just need it to work - every once in a while.  Might try to find some "food safe" silicone or just gorilla tape it.

Not a clue.  If I ever see one I'll check it out.

I often times scoop ice out of the bottom of it - especially towards the end of the trip...

Tape or silicone and then turn it into a gear box or tool box.  Have fun shopping!  Otherwise, leave at least one bag of ice unopened so you'll always have clean companions for the distilled spirits.

I'd drill a hole at each end of the crack, open the crack up a bit with a Drimel tool or something similar to dig a small trough into the foam. Probably wouldn't hurt to rough up the plastic around the crack and then use a high quality silicone caulk to seal.  I'd use your finger to shape and spread as  necessary. I'd keep it in the house to keep it warm with the lid open for a while. Then what the heck after it cures put some Gorilla tape over the sucker.

I say just gorilla tape it and keep some ice in a bag for consumption until you get some cash flow going again...
