Dana Design Pack
« on: April 25, 2008, 03:31:17 AM »
I was on ebay tonight and spotted this deal. I am not associated with the seller at all, I just own a Dana Design backpack built in Bozeman Montana (16 years and strong!) and think it's the best large pack ever made. The price is a steal considering the seller is stating it is NEW. Mine is a Dana Design Astralplane Overkill and cost was $500 new.

Have a look. I posted this to my other personal friends too. I just think it's too good to pass if you pack heavy loads, it can take it. I once spent 10 days in big bend with mine and when I started out I had 85 lbs of anything you can put into a pack. The Dana carried it like it wasn't there.

Wow.
He has been sitting on that for a while evidently.
Still in the plastic, so I assume it still has the tags on it as well.
It weighs a ton, but Dana was the definition of "bombproof". High quality gear.
Still 5 days to go. I'll be interested in seeing how high rthe bidding goes.

I have the XL version that that pack and that sucker can hold a lot.  I notice the one for sale is a medium so make sure it will fit you before you get it.  I got mine on closeout at mgear.com.  With a 23 inch back, it is really hard for me to find a proper fitting backpack and this one fits and carries wonderfully.

Here it is loaded with 4 sleeping bags, 4 sleeping pads, 4 pillows, a 4 man tent, food for 4, water for 4, and a bunch of other stuff.

Are the kids , inside too?....wow you need a boulder, just for a counter weight. And you were complaining about a Gerber Diesel multi tool. You can surely give mountaindocdanny a run for his money..if you all can run with that pack.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

And that's that in a nutshell.

There's really not a lot of weight in it - sleeping bags and sleeping pads don't weight a lot.  It was much heavier, but less bulky looking, when I did Marufo Vega because of all the water I was carrying.  It's not easy backpacking with 2 small kiddos.

Heck, we ALL can go and Randall can carry the gear. He's probably got an SUV parked in that thing.

No problem. You can go ahead and climb in, too. He'll never know as long as you don't squirm around. :rolling:

Still in the plastic, so I assume it still has the tags on it as well.
It weighs a ton, but Dana was the definition of "bombproof". High quality gear.
Still 5 days to go. I'll be interested in seeing how high rthe bidding goes.

Real Dana packs are definitely bombproof. If it's not one made in Bozeman, it's not a real Dana guys, so remember that. Dana dropped me a note recently on his two new packs the Kodiak and the Grizzly which are very very similar to the pack I have. Going price on the Kodiak and Grizzly is $640.00........ Well worth it. My pack is old, been everywhere, layed on in the dirt etc. Yet I wash it off with the hose and dawn detergent, and it looks brand new. No kidding.

Yeah the gear coming out of Mystery Ranch right now is classic Dana. It is bombproof, high quality, and should last a lifetime.

Yeah I want a new pack, the Kodiak for instance, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with what I have.... the pack is perfect. I can't wear it out!! So since I cannot justify it, I'm not buying it... for now. I might buy the Kodiak next year, just to have a 'back-up alternative'...... yeah that's a good excuse  :icon_biggrin:
