Those seem easier than the Stickup hitch...

Yep, just drop the bikes on and go. However, the 2 real reasons I picked it is because the models that hold the bikes by the top tube have a tendency to stress the frame in a way it is not particularly designed to be held. If you are driving off pavement this can subject the top tube welds to fairly high shock loads with all the bike weight being held by the pretty small weld beads on each end. The hitch rack exposes the bikes to no more stress than riding since the weight is on the wheels. The other is that a hitch mount is just so far superior in terms of durability that there's no contest. Of course the hanging-style racks are usually the only solution for passenger cars since few have frame hitches.

I completely forgot about this stimulus check.  Last night I bought airline tickets on sale to fly to Denver in September.  This morning as I was wondering how I would pay for those tickets, I checked my bank account and there it is - enough money to cover the airline tickets and car rental!  Consider the economy stimulated!

Looks like we might be spending some of ours on sidewalk repairs.  Our homeowner's association sent us a complaint letter stating it's "uneven/sunken".

Gestapo tactics.  Good grief.  It's the Houston area, of course it's sunken and uneven from the years of pumping out water from underground and the fact that its a marsh.  Someone at the association has way too much time on their hands.  Did the Texas Legislature "pull" some of the power from POA's during the last session?  I know there was discussion about it.

Thankfully, there is no association where I live.

What did you do to these people RichardM to have them hunting you up for something like this?  You really must have pissed in their cereal.

Reminds me of the X-Files episode where Mulder was in a strange community, probably where you live Richard by the sounds of it, and would do things to PO the POA - play basketball in the driveway at night, pink flamingos, messed up the mail box, etc.

How about this...

U.S. retailer promotions for tax rebates

There are bound to be others that do this.  If you find any others, please post them.

Richard, Sears might do the sidewalk for you through one of their contractors?

If anyone gets a rebate check and doesn't need it, please advise and I will forward deposit instructions to you - kinda like the Nigeria deposed leader email of old.

We've been wondering why they're picking on us as well.  There are lots of sections of sidewalk in our neighborhood that are much worse than ours.  We're even friends with the vice-prez of the N.A. (or at least we're on friendly terms as their son and our daughter love to play together at the neighborhood park).  They have a bad section of sidewalk in front of their house, so I may have to narc on them. :icon_twisted:

Maybe they're still upset about the two "white metal dove on a stick" garden decorations my wife put in our front yard garden after we first moved in.  She had to move them to the backyard after they sent a letter. :icon_rolleyes:

Here's the front sidewalk:

Pay no attention to that brown spot by the curb, as my wife was already planning on buying some grass to fill it in.

Maybe this is the section they don't like:

The property line is about where the water meter is with our side on the left, so we're only about 40% responsible for that.

WTF - I'd go to the local Hobby Lobby store and spend my $600 on the plastic flamingos, lighted flamingos, lighted palm trees, and every other piece of cheap Chinese crap they sell and fill the yard with it.

Ever wonder what the Chinese workers think about producing all of the crap that we buy?  They are probably barely making ends meet slaving away in a dirty dangerous factory so that we can have plastic flamingos...

Maybe you should run and get elected to the HOA.  I mean, it would be one thing if you stored the garbage cans in the font yard, parked the cars in the yard, etc.  There are limits.  One mans art is another's HOA letter...

"uneven/sunken".

I thought that's what 'Houston' meant when translated into English  :rolling:

Maybe this is the section they don't like:

The property line is about where the water meter is with our side on the left, so we're only about 40% responsible for that.

If you work this right, you won't have to fix it...the city and/or builder will. You obviously have been affected by poor design and engineering concerning installation of the water line to your home, and the immediately adjacent fire hydrant. It's either poor compaction or a small, undetected leak upstream of the meter (thus it does not show up) that has slowly but surely been piping soil from under the sidewalk. This is how those big sinkholes get started in a lot of cases.

The city should get on this right away as they wouldn't want to be liable when your neighborhood slides into the hole created by their negligence.
