Title: Introducing the New...
Post by: SHANEA on November 15, 2013, 09:53:50 AM
Yep, picked it up last weekend.   Will have a shake down cruise over Thanksgiving.  Then, it will make it's debut in West Texas during the Christmas season.

Very nice!

Just a note.  With the internet it is easy to look up addresses from a license plate.  It's a good practice to either fuzz out the plate number with Photoshop or retake the pic without the license plate in it.  I am sure all the regulars on BBC are trustworthy, but you never know who is out there that looks at this website that might like what you have and want it for themselves.

I'm cracking up that you posted a picture of the potty.   :icon_lol:

Looks like a lot of fun will be had by all!  Does it have a name?  :)

Thanks, I'm not that paranoid.  It's pretty easy to figure out who I am and where I am - not many dots to connect.   Really don't understand the big deal, for many years you could find someone very easily using the white pages and reverse number lookup or by dialing 411.   People were stalking people and harassing people long long before the internet.

Sure, but social media has vastly simplified that task for the miscreants out there, helped by the folks that become their victims.

And, you've now told everyone you pretty much exactly when you won't be home during two holidays. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out you aren't home when the TT is gone. And, with other photos you've posted recently, folks also won't have any trouble figuring out which house is yours once they go to the (not much) trouble of locating the address. I'd say you've put way too much personal info in a public place.

Hopefully, you won't regret the publicity.

lisc plates, be like the uproar when local church groups were standing outside the local titty bar snapping pics of all the patrons and their lisc plates as they drove in and entered the club, or the other religious group taking pics of those that went into liquor stores for the demon beverage.  then posting all of them to the webpage and then tracking down the high value assets of local officials, ministers, educators, etc as they were within their right, they were on public property.  be like me coming out of humpy dumpty and someone didnt like the bumper sticker on my truck and jotted down the lisc plate so he could give me a piece of his mind.  or the more recent example of people buying plan b and then confronting them and getting their pic and lisc plate number, or pics and lisc plates as women enter abortion clinics.

Shane,

The new R2D3 looks like a nice adventure platform and based on your life with R2D2 I'm guessing you'll test it to it's limits.  It seems like you set the bar in terms of taking your pop up places.  Have you got an idea where you can get it to?  It appears to have better than aveage clearance for a hardside.

I'm guessing Government Springs sites are a definate yes.  Candelaria doubtful?  How is the access to Black Gap WMA?

Any thoughts of solar panels and/or 12v battery storage?  How much water can it store?

Haaa! You're funny.  :icon_biggrin:, but you're right. It doesn't make a diff, and I don't care. It's never any fun when you have to explain the punch line. :willynilly:

solar panels, perish the thought when i can increase my carbon footprint and can contribute to global green house gasses with a honda 3000 watt generator, which is allowed at bgwma and bbrsp and at certain times and places at bibe.  used it with r2d2 and will yse it with this.  ground clearance is fair, water tank between the axles and gray and black water.  a couple of sites in the deep back country at bgwma and bbrsp that i couldnt get to, but there are plenty of nice remote desolate sites to pick from.  i hope to be able to get it down old ore road as far as la nora 1 or 2.  btw, it is a used unit, 2010 model, avoid the instant depreciation

Welcome to the world of real camping ;)

Some of the guys in my jeep club made fun of me bringing the motorhome to the nat. forest campground on a ride. They weren't laughing too much that night as we walked around inside in shirt sleeves and it was in the 20's in their tents. Funny how they all wanted to see the inside the next night ;)

Plus I not only towed my jeep on the trailer behind it, but on the way in someone broke down and I ended up hooking a strap to my jeep on the trailer and towed them to the hotel in the NF along the way.

I agree, i have tent camped since I was 16, had the pop up for nine years, and now this.   I still will tent camp when backpacking.  But, there are several reasons for the switch.  i am self employed and work from home.  all i need is an internet connection a phone and a computer.  Electricity too.  Verizon 4g hotspot handles the internet access no problem.  Thus, i could easily work from anywhere i can get 3 or 4g.  why be tied to my home office all the time?   pop up was too noisy to do the voice.   on long trips like to west texas, you cant always do it in one day.  setting up the pop up for 6 hours of sleep is too much work and takes too much time, thus i end up paying for a hotel in fort stockton.  i like to travel with my doggie sometimes and the pop up just isnt safe for him, too easy to break out around the bunk, so he cant be left alone.  out in west texas, i was mildly concerned about bears, thin plastic wont do much to keep them out so i always stored food in the truck, there were major cocerns when i was volunteering at bibe and camping at pj during a rash of bear incidents at pj, in the backyards, etc.  plus, creature comforts are nice, quick and easy to setup, private, etc.  and of course the gf will much prefer it over a tent or the popup, the popup toidy was anything but private.   i guess at the end if the day, i have unfortunately gotten old, funny how it happens that one day you wake up and realize that you are no longer ten foot tall and bullet proof and are not 25 anymore.
