Jetboil Fuel -- MIDLAND Retailers??
« on: January 28, 2007, 09:40:56 AM »
I'm flying into Midland Thursday evening about 6p and will need to find Isoprpal/Butane for the our Jetboil stoves.  Does anyone know where I can find it?   It's not sold at any ACE or Wally-World.   It would need to be somwhere high-end that has those smaller canisters; the ones with tha very small screw top.  We're driving to the Basin early Friday morning.   Anywhere on the way would work also, but I'd feel better knowing I can find it before I leave Midland.

As a last resort, I could ship some to my brother in Midland tomorrow and pick it up from him, but surely someone there sells it.   I had hell finding it this weekend in east texas.  I ended up having to drive all the way back to Dallas and pick some up at my house.

There is a camping/ski shop, higher end type, in the HEB-anchored shopping center in Midland.  I don't know what they have in the way of gear.

While I have heard good things about the jetboil, your issues of finding suppliers of the proprietary fuel system would seem to not bode well for long-term or economical use.

I noticed the other day that our local Target was selling canisters of Colemen  80/20 butane/propane for only 98 cents each. There's a Target in Odessa and one in Midland. Can't the Jetboil burn any type of butane canister fuel? Maybe just not as efficiently as their own brand?

Yes, it can, as long as the canisters fit.   I'll go to target here in Dallas tomorrow and check it out

Well any canister of that size works with the Jetboil.  MSR makes canisters like that.   I just couldnt find any in East Texas last weekend.

There's an Academy in Midland.  Academy doesn't sell the Jetboil branded canisters, but I think they do sell some other brand of the small butane/propane canisters.  It might be worth calling the store in Midland before you leave and verify they have what you need.
WATER, It does a body good.

Have you tried calling the Basin store? We had the same issue on our last trip and ended up checking the store. They had two canisters that were set aside in the back for someone else who never picked them up.

I was not around for the exchange but my impression was that they carried them but were out of stock, presumably because it was just after the holidays  (my assumption, that they were not adequately stocked up). So I'm guessing that they normally carry them. It's worth a check.
