I was  reading this thread again, and it seems as though the liters issue is causing some noise to the conversion part of this discussion.

You do not need no conversion calculator to make a quick decision. You just need something to refer (visually or mentally) to help you out  make the best decision.

Now, with this said..take note that all standard  stationary water bottles have a capacity of 19 Lts.

Just take this in to consideration to determine which backpack serves you best in any given situation. Hope this helps.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

Good thinking my man,
You don't need all that volume.
I just hope I can stuff enough bedding into my 65 liter to keep me and my granddaughter warm, next weekend. The forecast is 22 degrees for the night of the 26th.

Questions?
Smaller tent (2-man) warmer than larger (4-man)?
Extra cover, best on top of the bags or under them?

Weighed my pack this afternoon for the Bibe trip and without water it is 25 pounds including food.  I was not too happy about that since I will be carrying 6 liters of water to start out.  That will be my heaviest of the trip but I was hoping for 30 pounds all in with water.  Back to the drawing boards.

Reece, when i hit Seminole Canyon in winter last year, i went with a two man tent. My Oldest daughter slept with me and we were toasty warm inside, with the proper winter sleeping bags of course.

Extra cover, best on top of the bags or under them?

The common sense thing to say wouyld be UNDER, to block the cold from the ground, but it also depends on what you are bringing for Shleeping Bags.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

Both 10 degree bags - one Kelty, Cosmic down mummy and one giant Coleman, synthetic, simi-mummy.
One corrugated Academy foam sleeping pad and one 1-1/2" Big Agnes inflatable.
Plenty of warm long underwear, wool socks and wool Sherpa hats.

One plus - my granddaughter is a hot sleeper. She usually kicks off the covers.

I'm thinking of bringing an old 40 degree rectangle bag to open up for extra cover or extra padding underneath. Any suggestions on how to start out?

I'm just trying to avoid having to experiment with different configurations in the middle of the night.
