I know what you mean about carry a Mountain Doc Danny sized load.  Kinda feels like strapping a VW Beetle on your back each morning.

BurnBan:  Not trying to sound anti-domestic, but why buy Coleman products?  I think most if not all of their products are manufactured in China as well.  I own a Coleman X-ponent 1 man tent.  The darn thing weighs more than my 2 man REI tent.

I'm currently carrying an original (circa '98) Mountainsmith Mountainlight 5200cl, weighs about 3lbs empty. Haven't replaced it yet as it is still among the lightest you can get a hold of, and it simply refuses to die.

it is simply that they are big supporters of boy scouts of america and i have been a volunteer leader of same for many years.  to be sure, not everything they produce is weight conscious.

as far as china goes...when obama has finished what bush 43 began - china will own this country anyway. they are already well on their way. who the hell else is lending us money with reckless abandon?

is that off topic enough?

I think Nixon started with China.  It just gets worse every year regardless of who is in office.  After all it's "In Greed we trust"

I went looking a fitting for a new pack last year.  After six packs, soft, internal and external I chose the Osprey exos 34.  I can carry all my gear, 5L water and six pounds of camera gear.  That is more than enough for me.  Getting to old to not watch those pounds on the back.

I got tired of packs being too large, too small, or unable to hold gear lashed to them... so I made my own!

I'll be taking a Molly Mac Pack to Big Bend next week. It's a day pack, a weekend pack, or an extended trek pack. You configure it for your needs!
