Next week we're heading to Big Bend with a device we're going to try... a propane shower! We'll set up a tarp as a screen and shower in our own camp.

What are you going to use to capture your gray water?

Ay Chihuahua! I didn't think of that!

I'll have to ask the fellow who is bringing it if it has a foot pan with a drain hose.

I had the same idea about a camp shower, then I saw the expense go up as I realized I had to capture the spent water somehow.  I'd love to know where to find a good basin with a drain that stood up high enough off the ground to run a hose to a plastic tank.  I wonder if you could make one out of an aluminum tub by cutting a drain in the bottom and attaching a hose connection and then elevating it with pavers or something.

Here is a possible solution if only it were mounted on top
of a sturdy plastic catch container with wheels and a handle. :eusa_drool:

I'd just use a laundry tote or a big gear tote. They have handles and you could empty after each shower. It's not like the pumps for those showers put out a lot of water. I used to have one and the pump resembled a small aquarium pump.

The rule about catching the grey water is part of what prompted me to buy some terlingua ranch land.  I realize the need for such a rule, but feel that dumping a couple of gallons of used water on the ground is not going to be the end of the world.  As for showers, I mounted a heat exchanger plumbed into my heater hoses on both my jeep and my truck.  I use a small 12 volt rv pump and can take a hot shower that rivals my one at home.

You might check out the Field Lab blog...  John lives in that area, and has a solar shower stall setup next to his home.  There might be details on what he does with the grey water.

My buddy who is bringing the shower says they use a tote to catch grey water.
