I used the Garcia cannister in Yosemite -- requires a coin to turn the two locks. That cannister will hold my resupply in the Sawtooths. I'm going to try the new Ursack for my food and smellables. Ursacks are not allowed in the Sierras but are OK in Idaho.

I'm still using a Ratsack to store my food while on backpacking trips.  It's a stainless steel mesh bag with a very sturdy velcro enclosure.  It seems to keep small varmits like squirrels, mice and ravens out.  Too bad the company fell upon hard times and took a lot of folks money without shipping the product.  I think another company in Flagstaff, AZ makes a similar product.

It's like the study they did in Yosemite back in the 90's where the bears, after lots of experimentation, had concluded that Honda and Toyota sedans were the easiest to break into and so just concentrated there efforts on those kinds of cars. They even figured out it was easier to peel the doors back like a banana and then pull the back seats down to get to the stuff in the trunks!  :icon_eek:
