I carry the leatherman squirt.  Only knife and tool I need.

"Measuring only 2.25 in. in length and weighing less than 2 oz."

have you been satisfied with its robustness?

I love it.  Been carrying it in my pack for several years.

I have a small Gerber with a scissors instead of a blade. I had never really considered it for backpacking but once in happened to be in my pocket when I left. It did get used a lot and at less than an ounce or two wasn't a burden.

Just got a Gerber DIME.  My initial reaction is very positive.  Good leverage and bite with the pliers and very light.
Leave "quit" at the car.  Embrace the trail as your friend.  Expect to enjoy yourself, and to be amazed.

That's a pretty sweet tool, dprather. If Gerber replaced the package opener with a tough sawtoothed blade, and the medium flat-head with an awl, it would be perfect for me. Meanwhile, I just replaced my 5 oz CRKT Tanto folding knife with the 0.6 oz CRKT NIAD. No specialty tools, but it does just about everything I need from a simple knife, except maybe defend from angry megafauna.   ;)
