It's been a good 12 years since I last bought boots (well since i was 12 or 13 my mom bought boots). They're still comfortable, but spots are wearing through on the soles and the soles themselves are starting to detach. They've been falling apart like that for at least a year now, but i've squeezed 4 or 5 more trips out of them. I decided the Mesa was not a good place to see how long you could stretch a pair of boots, so I splurged and got some new kicks.



Hopefully these will break in well. I'm used to flexible soles and well broken in leather, these are quite stiff at the moment. I'm also hoping these offer as much thorn/rock protection as full leathers. I didn't want to spend another $50 to get the full leathers.

I'll report back how they're breaking in and how they perform on the trail, this place can always use more gear reviews!

they look like Vibram soles, but i think they're just Asolo like the rest of the boot

I've had my Asolo FSQ 95 boots for a year now and have put maybe 60-70 miles on them and they've been great. No problems with pointy things even when scrambling off trail.

I could use a new pair of boots to replace my well worn Merrell's.  Unfortunately, this pair is going to have to last for another hike in April before I have the funds to buy a new pair.

I read a lot of good reports on Osolo boots, most likely I'll try out a pair.

When I lived in Tucson, I replaced my boot soles about once ever two years.  I found a cobbler who put on hard rubber soles much like work boot soles.  Specifically, Vibram #100.  See this image:

They weren't as grippy as the rubber on regular hiking boots, but hey . . . $55 to keep a hiking boot going another two years is worth it.

So you finally retired your torn up tennis shoes you used to hike in... icon_wink

I just got a pair of these.  I got tired of getting blisters.  These are supposed to be the best.  I also have a pair of Osolo's but they gave me blisters and are much heavier than these.
