want a free copy of Big Bend Vistas?
« on: January 06, 2007, 02:07:24 AM »
For XMAS my Dad got me a new copy of Big Bend Vistas, A Geological Exploration of the Big Bend, by William MacLeod.

This was a risky proposition on his part, since I'm one of those annoying people who always buys things like that for themselves before anyone can graciously give it as a gift.

When I told him I didn't already have it, he seemed really relieved.

Cool...

Anyway, now he's in Anguilla for a while, so I can probably let the cat out of the bag -- I lied.

Already had it.

Great book.

SO -- HERE'S THE DEAL

I'll mail this new copy to the first person who can tell me what this is...

And, as a bonus question, what (if anything) does
 mean to you?

No gushing -- a short paragraph max.

For those of you who already own the book, how about we let someone else get it -- you can e-mail me privately at trtlrock@lynxconnect.com if you think you "know the answer," but already have the book...

So -- again -- 1st correct answer [my definition] gets the book.

This is very interesting. A symbology exercise. Looks challenging. So far all I can say for sure is it is not the artist formerly (and once again) known as Prince.

Well, no winner so far.

Boot Canyon 1 Cougar took a stab at it by e-mail; he already owns the book.

Among other thoughts, he asked "is this supposed to be easy?"

Yeah, actually, it is -- for the right person.

Ok, I guess I should give a big fat hint here:  the answer is not about "love" per se...or romance, or "hooking up."  This is not an oblique personal ad  :) Nothing existential...there is a distinct & objective correct answer to the question.

Presidio -- you've unwittingly wandered in the general direction where one would find (i.e. know) the answer -- intriguing, eh?

Keep trying guys & girls -- with >300 registered members & about 75 views so far I am really curious to see if anyone knows the answer.  If we go several more days I may have to come up with an easier question though  :(

"what this is?" It is what it is. You didn't ask what it meant. Silly, I know.

Yeah, Bobcat -- you're right, of course.  It IS what it is, isn't it?

Not going to give you credit for that one though, sorry.

Hey -- this is basically bar trivia here, but, thanks to Google, hints that would actually be cryptic & somewhat difficult (were one actually in a bar) turn into instant answers.  And there's no fun in that, is there?

The baseball analogy of this question would be something like, "name the starting lineup of the '47 Phillies," or maybe "who was Balor Moore?"

Anyway...here's another hint...

Maybe "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is"

Didn't we have a T-SHIRT contest like this once before?  I don't think the Supreme Court has ever ruled on a decision for that one.   :P

Love - well, according to the movie it's never having to say your sorry...

According to Covey, it's a action verb.

Other than that, can't help out much.  I'm not too good at reading those ink blots.

Yeah. We need a winner announced so we can 'all go to Big Bend' while others 'go to work'.  :D

I could say THAT on a moments notice! (If I really wanted to do THAT). I would be self-employed(actually, not necessary).

It's a sticky topic at http://www.bigbendchat.com/portal/forum/index.php?topic=1461.0&highlight=tshirt

The poll is locked in a 4-way dead heat, but "You may all go to work and I will go to Big Bend!" is clearly the leader if you stare at it hard enough.  :D  :D

OK, I have declared a winner!

Our own fearless moderator was able to suss it out, although he knows nothing of Love...

I am surprised it took this long.

With all the great music referenced here:  http://www.bigbendchat.com/portal/forum/index.php?topic=487.0&start=0

AND the fact that (to more-than-casual devotees of 60s rock) Love's "logo" is as distinctive and well-known as this:

AND that anybody could've googled my "signature quote" in 30 seconds...

well, I'm suprised the thread lasted long enough to get hijacked

You can find out more about Love here:

allmusic.com: Love > Biography

And you could read about their landmark album, Forever Changes, here...

allmusic.com: Forever Changes > Overview

Incredibly long URLs embedded by Moderator.
