I have a FIND-ME-SPOT device.  My "renewal" recently came up and I chose not to renew as I haven't used it in a long while.   Someone called up a while back and I told them I wasn't renewing.  They didn't send anything to my email, but went ahead and billed me for $363.66 for two more years.  I've already emailed them and my credit card company disputing it.

Wow!  That is wire frasud, arguably.  Indicate to them that you will, if they do not un-charge it right now, notify your local FBI office and U.S. attorney.  That might get their attention.

I let the credit card company handle that kind of stuff.   That's why I do due diligence and read through all of my bills and statements line by line  so I can find stuff that doesn't belong or has gone up in price.  ATT landline lost my business when they snuck in a new fee for "non use of long distance service".   I also still make everyone send me paper bills as well.

Hello,

No.  I disagree.  The charge just showed up on my statement.  I have already notified the credit card company that I am contesting this and will not be paying for it. I have not used the thing in a long time and I am not about to pay for something I am not using.  I will be posting this information to various chat pages and bulletin boards.

The transaction date of the credit card payment was 11/01/2011 - thus, the 120 days is bogus.  Refund the full amount.  I have already filed a dispute with Chase.  Dispute# xxxxxx.  I did not receive any kind of email or notice that this transaction was going to occur.

It is like you already have bought another GPS and not use it. Isn't there a plan where you get billed as you go?. There are tons of plans out there for services only solicited when required. I just can not see why SPOT does not offer something similar.

If you get "whacked" with the bill, eventually. I need a SPOT for an upcoming trip in to the Sierra del Burro Dude. You are cordially invited and bring your SPOT with you so you can punch that I'm OK button all day long.... ;D
Stay thirsty, my friends.

Well, I guess I got their attention as I got a phone call from them - someone with more "power".  I am getting a refund minus the period of Aug, Sept, and Oct (3 months) when it renewed.  I can see their point as they don't want customers in the middle of a trip to not have their spot working because the credit card didn't renew.  I'm sure there are some huge liability issues that "I went hiking in Big Bend, climbed up Elephant Tusk - couldn't get down, got in trouble, pressed the 911 button" and no one came and rescued me as my SPOT renewal didn't go through on my credit card.  I finally had to cut off my leg and crawl back to get help.   Would have to ask Reb Gregg about the liability issues  :icon_lol:

I have my own SPOT plan,  it is simple and free, don't get into anything you can't get yourself out of.  So far it's worked pretty good though a couple of times I had my doubts.  TWWG
