That's a very sharp truck, I'm sure it will provide you with years of reliable service.

I think we are definitely in the golden age of pickup trucks.  All 3 domestics are making excellent quality full sized trucks.  About the only one that is behind the times now is the Nissan Titan.

I'm currently eyeing a new Ram 1500 Quad Cab Big Horn, 4x2, 5.7L V8.  My Dad owns a 2010, the 5.7L has the cylinder deactivation feature and gets 22mpg on the hwy.  Dodge has made some huge changes since the 2009 model, including switching to coil spring rear suspension.  $28K out the door with a lot of great features including backup sensors, satellite radio, 20" wheels.  I really like the chrome rear bumper with the molded in exits for the dual pipes.

I'm ready to trade in my old gas miser Toyota Matrix.  It's been years since I've owned a pickup and am ready for the utility.

Based on truck reviews, the Dodge has the best ride and Dodge has always had top notch mechanics (except for when they transitioned to electronically controlled trannies but that was many years ago).  Dodge and Nissan have apparently divorced on future truck development so the future of the Titan is not certain although apparently Nissan is dedicated to developing a new model.  I work with a guy who has a 2006 Titan with 200,000 miles on it.  It runs great and he still drives it long distances with confidence  There are a few little problems like A/C vent louvers that are broken but otherwise it's still a solid truck.  Ford is currently in the lead on the latest greatest engines but you're right about the 5.7 liter Hemi.  It's a very good engine and reasonably economical when driven carefully.

Tuxedo Black is no longer available this model year

Is that due to the pigment shortage due to the Japanese disruption in the supply chain?  Figured they would have that resolved by now.

Exactly!  Now they're offer a black that is not metallic like the Tuxedo Black, I didn't care for it.

Tell ya what, it's really nice and no longer spooky to drive more than across the street, especially hauling the R2D2 camper.  When TWWG and I were headed back from Perdnales River SP a while back, I was spooked as I thought I smelled the tell tale sign of a transmission over heating - you know the smell of clutches.  It was 100+ outside and had a long way to go.  I've always been spooked by the thought of breaking down out in the middle of inner Mongolia - someplace like virtually anywhere in the West Texas Big Bend Trans Pecos region.  I figured I'd be tooling down the I-10 at 2am and break down in Bakersfield  OR even more spooky than that, the stretch of Hwy 190 between Eldorado and Iraan.  Last time I was on that route, there was zero cell service either on my ATT or my OnStar.

Bought mine 10 days ago.

Nice ride I must say that you got there.  You certainly know that you are driving an off road machine - no doubt about it - like driving a tank compared to the Avalanche.   My fav thing so far is the remote start - awesome in this heat, then the tailgate step, the information center on the dash is well thought out - I do like having the transmission temp - and the NAV system with the weather, sat radio, etc.  All in all, I'd say a very well built and well designed truck.

Park yours next to mine and we will get a Ford Ranger out of it?   :rolling:

Glad you finally came to your senses and bought a Ford F-150.  Now I will feel much better going places with you.  I never told you last trip but the floorboard under my feet got very hot, I thought it was just the 100 plus temps outside but the floorboard was probably 120 or more.  Could have been heat from the exhaust pipes or tranny but it seemed unusually warm.   Congrats and keep on truckin'   No matter what pickup you drive in Texas all men love their trucks,  I know I love mine  :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:   TWWG

Nice rig!

In case you don't spend enough time on this forum, you should check out this one: http://www.f150forum.com/.   It has tons of useful info on these trucks.  It is to F150s what this site is to Big Bend.

and I never told you that when we stopped just outside the park for some awful coffee, that I thought I smelled transmission.  I worried about it all the way home and kept the speed reasonable, didn't over accelerate, etc.  THAT was the deciding trip when I said the Avalanche had to go.  It would never tow R2D2 again.  Didn't want to have car payments until 2012 or 13, but....  I just hope that I get as much life out of this one as you have with your 200K plus Ford and hope it is First on Race Day and NOT Found On Road Dead.

Thanks.  I only checked out the Avalanche forums when problems arose.  I'm not into modifications.  I've already had a bed liner put in and will have the cover on soon.  Will have to do more highway driving to see if I need the sunroof visor/block/wind noise reducer.

My son has a little older version of that truck... same color too.

I've always been a Ford guy but in late '07 I was looking for an F250 4WD crew cab diesel and Ford had just come out with there twin turbo model so I passed (I'm glad I did) and bought an early '08 2500 HD Duramax. Last check on the odometer was 230,000 miles (I like to drive) and my daughter pulls her two horse slant load horse trailer all over the place with it. The Duramax / 6 speed Allison hasn't given me a single problem. My biggest complaint is that when the road is a little wet (not a big problem this year) and I get on it too hard it'll untrack the tires (even at 50 mph). The rear tires always wear more than the front tires so I'm guessing it does it dry too.

That said, if I bought a new truck these days, it would be a Ford. The new Chevy diesels look like they ran over a trash can and it got stuck under the truck. Apparently the newer diesels all have to spray some kind of magic potion in the exhaust to make them smell better (or something like that)

Ok, question for you.  On the dashboard options - there is a remote start setting for "quiet" - any idea what that means?  I did a quick yahoo and seems like a lot of folks are stumped - I didn't go too much in depth - owners manual is worthless on this.

From the link:

I believe the "quiet start" is the truck doesn't honk the horn/ chirp whenever it is started.
