SAFETY

1. Is it safe to cross the border in the park?

Although we never guarantee safety, many people cross into the Mexican villages of Boquillas and Santa Elena and have no trouble. However, we occasionally have problems with vehicle break-ins along the river, so it is important to take valuables with you, and lock your vehicle. Also, keep in mind that the river-crossing operations are not run by the park, so people are crossing at their own risk.

Yeah, imagine that, you were on your own and responsible for your own actions. Life was good and citizens' liberties were not infringed. Those that were able to experience that era know what we have lost in the quest for 'safety'. Those that never got to go will never understand what they missed.

However, I feel so much more secure  now that we have a plethora of ill-advised and demonstrably ineffective actions relating to security.

I just don't know how I ever managed to survive not having my hand held by all the agencies that are so eager to do that for us now.

Just as true today as in the 1700s (and maybe even more so): Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. Benjamin Franklin

Sadly, we truly have lost liberties and have not achieved safety. Of course, that only makes our elected officials want to further restrict liberties in their  attempt to show something for what they are doing to us.

That's what made the trip enjoyable, in all the years I spent crossing into Mexico without a problem, now it's a problem????.
Visiting BB since 1966, nothing like being lost and finding heaven.
