A friend of mine posted some shots on TPF of a Big... Yellow... Cat... that he saw and photographed a few days ago. He got a few shots off before it disappeared into the brush. He was so close to the basin parking lot that he ran to his car, grabbed his camera, and ran back to take the shots. He heard it first. I'm not sure if he yelled "here kitty kitty" to attract it or not... probably not.

Here's a little piece of his story. I won't post his images... it's not cool to do that...

I got back to the basin and went for a stroll on the Basin loop trail to more or less "relax". I was leaning against a tree almost dozing off when I heard the cougar "scream". I ran about 50 yards to car, grabbed the 300 & 1d2n. I was very excited & never thought about anything but getting the cat before he was gone. I heard him in the brush (we were only about 100-120 yds from the casa Grande lodges) and then saw him head up the hill across the ravine

Yeah it sure is... I wish Leon would get on here and retell the story... even in print you can "hear" the excitement. He's got grandbaby duty today... can't blame him for not posting

Thks to my friend Michael for posting the pix (such as they were).
this is tghe best I could do to tell the story-I was a very excited old coot. :icon_eek:

IDid Idid Idid Taw A Putty Kat!!

I've tracked & searched for Mtn Lions & Bears in the BiBe for a long time . While I've had several sightings of both, I have never had the opportunity to get a shot before they disappeared into the bush.
I need to set up the reason for these horrible pix so this is my story & I'm sticking to it!!!
I had spent the day in the Black Gap WMA & wilderness area in the hot & very bright sunlight! Cam settings AV7.1 ISO100 ETC.
I heard him in the brush (we were only about 100-120 yds from the casa Grande lodges) and then saw him head up the hill across the ravine- Long story short-I got a couple of shots I thought would be OK, then realized the cam was still set on 100 ISO. This was after 8 PM & it was getting dark in the ravine with some sunlight streaming through parts of the "window".
I was handholding a 300mm2.8 attached to the 1d2n and the shutter went off at 1/13 of a second.(me stumbling up & down the ravine didn't help) I was disappointed, but still I finally got my pix of the cat who had eluded me for a long time!

Glad you enjoyed the shots!!
Love to explore the history and scenery of the Big Bend area all the way from Candaleria to Langtry. IMO some of God's most beautiful work!!!

I did not repost the pix since they were already posted by ICE in his previous post.
