No Room at the Inn
« on: April 06, 2011, 07:14:05 PM »
Should have known better.  Our semi-planned trip to BIBE for the last week of April won't be happening.  I waited too long to check for reservations at the lodge, and they are booked up.
Alternate plan, and probably a better one, will be mid-September.  We've been looking for a way to get out of town for our 50th wedding anniversary, and this could be it.  We spent a belated honeymoon there in 1962, so the timing should be right.  Won't be able to do all we did back then, but, heck, we can try!

Stay in Terlingua, close not to far and a good second choice.
Visiting BB since 1966, nothing like being lost and finding heaven.

We did check locations in Terlingua as alternates, and Casitas in particular.  It isn't the accommodations, its the locale.  Were it just me, it would be Terlingua.  But logic doesn't come in to play.  This could possibly be our last trip together to Big Bend, and it must be to the Chisos.  On our first trip, we arrived in the Basin well after dark and had no concept of our surroundings.  We awoke the next morning, stepped out of the CCC cabin, and fell instantly in love with the awesome beauty.  A spectacular sunset through the Window that evening cemented that feeling.
So, this trip is more an affair of the heart than an excursion into the grandeur of Big Bend.  I hope you understand.

You can always keep checking to see if something opens up.

Did you call the lodge (432-477-2291) or just check their online reservation system? The online system is showing grey (i.e. no rooms available) for every day except one for the rest of the year, so I wouldn't trust it.
