The Price of Going to BIBE Increasing?
« on: February 21, 2011, 03:46:18 PM »
In case you missed it, oil prices surged today on the Middle East unrest.  Of course, you know what this means at the pump...  I noticed over the weekend that the $3.00/gal barrier was shattered.

Any idea on what petrol prices are out that way?

Looks like ethanol prices must be climbing as well.  There's a 7-11 station near my house that sells both 10% ethanol blended and straight gasoline, and the price differential is now down to .06 per gallon.

I'd guess BIBE area gas prices would be .50 to .75 higher than San Antonio or Houston.

On New Years Day I paid $3.35 at Study Butte.  It's time to start carpooling!

Hate to say it but will go as long as I can afford it, which looks like not much longer.

Heck it is $3.15 here in NC, so that isn't too bad.

Let's see... about 660 miles from OKC to the park... if I ride my bike about 100-120 miles per day I should be able to make it there in about 6 days...  12 days of food, bike repairs, near-death experiences with semi's along I-20...

On second thought, I'll just pay the $150 for round trip gas in my 'ol Toyota :)

Interesting facts, information about WTI.  I really thought that WTI was effectively changed to LSC some years ago.  It's all complicated.

WTI is only one of many LSC's delivered to Cushing. The light part of LSC is relative to geographical location, but generally > than 30 API gravity. Cushing gets LSC from Louisiana and N Dakota as well as West Texas. Cushing is "full" right now, hence the spread between WTI ex Cushing and for example Brent.

An industry analyst friend told me several months ago this was going to happen and that he was projecting $6/gallon by summer and $8-$9/gallon by year end.  I laughed and said "yea, right - glad your crystal ball doesn't have a crack in it like mine does".   He's expecting crude to rise to $250 - $300/bbl.

$250 a barrel?  I guess anything is possible if things get out of hand across the Middle East.  Guess I need to keep my mountain bike in tune in case I need to use it as my chief mode of transportation!  :)

Yikes!  That $150 round trip would cost $480 at $8/gal !

Well, that 0 increase in my Social Security check won't cover it, so we'll be looking for other ways.  Maybe I can harness some of these squirrels to the ole Jeep for a little extra mileage.
And on the bicycle thing - we were stationed in England from 63-66.  Gas on base was 25 cents a gallon, but at the few local stations it was the equivalent of more than $3/gal.  Lots of bicycles on the streets.

Many of those who subscribe to  peak oil are predicting such levels in the price of crude.  Should be quite interesting over the next few years to say the least...
