Initially I thought..  'Gas prices in Alpine are higher because of transportation costs to get it there'... but then I thought 'what a minute, Alpine isn't all that far from the Midland/Odessa area'.  What gives?

PS:  I bet it's simply due to less competition.  You can have higher prices as there isn't much pressure from competition.  How many stations are there in all of Alpine?  5... maybe 6?

I'm pretty sure there is no appreciable refining capacity in Midland. the closest are El Paso and Big Spring and probably most of the refined fuels are pipelined to a transload before local delivery in West Texas. I suspect that Alpine fuel may come from Big Spring.

Most certainly any FINA gasoline comes ultimately from Big Spring, and most of the refined products from El Paso serve the local, Tucson and Phoenix markets.
