Things we miss??

I've become so attached to this park that (with all due respect to the rest of you) I consider it to be mine. I don't say that out loud usually but it hits me hard when I see changes in the park of things that I've become attached to. The PJ visitor center redo has me concerned, if they don't keep the 3D relief map I'll be ticked. I survived the removal of the water barrels on the basin road pretty well but I'm not sure about other changes.

I thought I'd start this thread about missing stuff in the park. There could also be a "is it really missing or am I mis-remembering?" faction.  I could easily be in both. If there is a similar thread somewhere else already started, sombody stop me and kindly direct me there.

I'll start off with "Does anybody miss the snack bar as much as I do??"
There were so many times that camped in the basin campground without showers for days that we just didn't think we fit well with the dining room crowd. We would wait for the snack bar to open and enjoy wonderful milk shakes or real malts. The pancakes were very good as well, something to do with the altitude I guess and how it effected the way the batter rose. We cooked in camp of course but there were lots of times that we supplimented from the snack bar as a special treat.

Can anybody tell me when the wonderful snack bar was removed to make room for that silly salad bar? I wouldn't mind seeing a picture of it if anybody has one.

Well while I understand why it's gone, the old overflow camping at RGV was my first camping experience in BIBE. When you've been on the road for over a day and pull into the park about 1am, it's a little hard to spend time driving back out the park to start looking for a place to sleep.

I don't remember the basin snack bar, I've always been a desert person and haven't spent much time in the mountains.

The snack bar's been gone for 6-7 years??  maybe more.  I remember walking in, hot, sweaty, wanted a cold drink and a burger NOW and there's an empty counter :x
I don't miss the quality of food, etc, in the restaurant back then.  Had some awful meals there.
