Who's Got The Visitation Record?
« on: September 24, 2007, 07:27:39 AM »
I'm pretty sure it's not me. But in 2006 I went there in Feb, March, April ,May, Sept, and moved there in Oct. And every time I walked into PJ Ranger Leonard would shake his head... :ranger:

So who's visited the most in 1 year? Or, any other fanatic stories you'd like to share. :kaos-cactus06:

I have lost count during this summer, but I live in Alpine and my SO lives in the park, so that might give me an unfair advantage.  Guessing I would say that I have been 20+ times this year.

I went 15 times in 2003.

Once I went twice in a week with two different parties.  A backpacking trip to the rim for four days, came back home to work for two, then a 4x4 trip to the desert for 5 days.

And my quickest round trip was 36 hours with my late and great dog, Haley on Jan. 1st.

(Keep in mind, I live nearly 7 hours away.)

Well depends on how you define the record ;) We were there 3 times last year (at 1400 miles one way, about 24 hours drive time).

Hmmm.....I would have to say that it doesn't matter where you live. Just leisure visits that don't have anything to do with work (scientific, research, etc.), or your sweetie living there.  :eusa_drool:

allrighty....want a scale do you?

well, here it is:

the formula:

{[(X/12429.91)+(Y/365)]*0.25}*100

where X=Miles traveled one way
where Y=number of times in one year

the scale is 0 to 100

How did I come up with this?
well, since there has to be some sort of common variable for this to work, I came up with the fact that the earth's circumference is 24859.82 miles around.  Divide this in half and you get 12429.91.  In other words, there is no way anyone would come any further than 12,429.91 miles to Big Bend.  Then, you have the number of days in a year is 365.   Since most of the civilized world doesn't live in Terlingua (or any of it for that matter) it wouldn't really be possible to go to the park twice in one day so you are only limited to once per day with this formula.  So the most anyone could possibly get is a score of 100, of course, this is mpossible since you would have to visit the park 365 times in a year on 365 different occasions travelling 24859.82 miles in one day! So, realistically I'd say a scale od 0-10 is actually doable. But, hey, it's a formula.

What is more important that the previous question, is why would I spend my time thinking of this?
Cause the kid has been sleeping most of the day!  :eusa_dance:

My BIBE Score is 4.0661
What's yours?

Doc, I think you're the winner so far

Well, I worked it by hand and came up with the same answer my Excel Came up with?

{[(X/12429.91)+(Y/365)]*0.25}*100

X=680
Y=7

680/12429.91 = 0.0547
7/365=0.0192

{[(0.0547)+(0.0192)]*0.25}*100
{[0.0739]*0.25}*100
{0.0185}*100
1.8475

Google says 1.84712085

I won't even bother to post mine.  :icon_redface:

BTW, what's the significance of the 0.25 factor?

I think my score is rather low (~1.3) because I don't think I have ever been to the park more than twice in one year.  It isn't a 12,429 mile trip but certainly feels like it especially driving home - dirty, tired, blistered, sunburnt, sweaty, and with a truck load of dirty clothes and usually at least a few irritating broken off cactus spines in my shins.  The trip too the Park always seems much easier and faster than the trip coming home though my odometer proves it's the exact same distance (660 miles from my driveway to PJ).
The proposed formula fails to take into account the length of time spent in the Park.  If I spend 5-10 days in the Park I should get more "credit" than if I spent only 5-10 minutes.
I should also get more "credit" for backpacking, less for car camping, and even less for staying in the Basin Lodge or an RV.  :eusa_boohoo:
So what is a "Bag Monster" anyway?  :beer_chug:.... TWWG
