Title: best map source for backroads?
Post by: Arlon on October 20, 2011, 10:55:45 AM
Any thoughts on who's maps are more up to date than someone elses?
Looking for a GPS system to HELP find/navigate some backroads with.
Have an old handheld Garmin that's really in need of replacent and want to
do it with somethin that's pretty accurate and reliable. Topo a must, Satelite view a bonus.
Mostly for use while driving but something portable for trails would be nice too..

Garmin's national parks tops maps are very good. their new Garmin 62 series is really good, but I dont think they support satellite views.

here is a cool little buying guide/ unit selector so you can chose the features you want an it will show you the available models

Finally settled on a garmin 450. Seems the custom maps option might let me load in scanned park maps. Not sure how it works but seems fairly simple.. Will soon find out.
