The question still remains for me; Why can't the GPS manufacturers come up a decent display and an intuitive interface?

No clue about the interface, but this one seems to have a much better display.

On the MV, we used Garmins and iPhones with MotionX loaded. My iPhone was actually a little more accurate than my Garmin. Crazy, huh? Plus you can load satellite imagery before hand for out-of-coverage hiking. I'm still not comfortable with only the iPhone but it's so much easier to use that the Garmin gets kicked to the curb as a backup unit. Keep it in "Airplane Mode" to save battery life. Two days, no problem.

I foresee major changes coming to the handheld GPS market.
