Magellan Mapsend and Windows 7
« on: January 28, 2010, 03:53:10 PM »
Hello,

Has anyone been able to connect their Magellan gps to a computer with windows 7 using their mapsend topo software or anything else? I have an old Sport track Map which I can no longer connect to my pc...so I can can't change the maps or upload/download tracks/waypoints. I don't have a serial port, and have been using an usb adatpor which worked with my old computer (but it broke).

I'm looking at buying a new gps, but If anyone has a fix, I'd take that over a $200 purchase.

At least the good things is that I have the topo loaded of all Big Bend area, so when ever I go, it works.

If a serial port will get you up and running, you can buy a serial port PCI card for next to nothing. Here is one such example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=serial+port+card

The port wouldn't make the difference I don't think. I have a laptop, so I can't add a serial port.. I use an adpator and it worked with XP, but it no longer works with windows 7.

This might work with your adapter

Oh, ok.

Does your laptop have a PCMCIA slot? If so, would one of these help? http://www.amazon.com/Connectivity-PCMCIA-Serial-RS232-Adapter/dp/B002TLT96Y

The issue is a software, not hardware. The adapter I have works, but the gps and windows 7 doesn't.

Ok, I misunderstood the problem.
