Magellan Triton 2000

Anyone try one of these new Magellan Triton 2000's out yet? I have had a negative experience with Magellan in the past, but this looks pretty cool. Integration of National Geographics maps in with the GPS functions.

Sounds gimicky to me. National Geo does great, pretty maps, but for being in the wild I want a plain old USGS 24K topo...or the 100k ones that will load in a Garmin.

Well the Trails Illustrated maps have always been good. Those are National Geographic, and I am just wondering if that is the sort of maps installed into the unit. Most USGS maps you buy are basic paper, poor quality, and cost a bunch of money. On the other hand, I have had Trails Illustrated NG maps for years. Maps that have survived torrential rains and being stuffed in a bellows pocket for days on end on backpacking trips with no problems.

Most USGS maps you buy are basic paper, poor quality, and cost a bunch of money.

I was referring to the digital versions. I have 24k, 100k and 250k on the laptop and the 100k Garmin iteration of USGS for the GPS. Trails Illustrated maps are very good but they cover a fraction of the geography I do.
