merging KML files
« on: January 26, 2012, 10:48:54 PM »
Im trying to clean up all my tacks and waypoints I have in Google Earth, I know I have many duplicate waypoints and tracks, but it has not been a fun task of cleaning these up 1 by 1.

is there a way I can merge several .kml files, bring them into excel, sort the list by name or lat/long and delete the dupes that way, then save it back to 1 .kml file so I have a clean "My Places" in google earth??

I have looked a little today and found a few things, but it just did not work, or I gave up too soon because of the big headache i have had all day.

There are several free converters available on the world wide web. Some work OK, some not so much. I have yet to find one that does everything I want.

Here are couple you can try:

EmichLabs <----- This seems to work fairly well.

Choonchemlim <------ Works OK but has somewhat of a learning curve to configure.

Hope this helps, hopefully someone else will know of a better one.  :crossedfingers:

Thanks Don, I tried this one you suggested, and that's the one that aggravated my headache last night

the other one, I think I killed it...it returned an error about memory size limit on one of my files, but one of the much smaller ones worked very well.
