« on: January 06, 2008, 08:24:45 PM »
Ok,

I am getting ready for my first trip to BB with my new GPS.  The 60Csx, how ever trying to up load waypoints from here I can not since they are in different formats.

29.43837000  -103.14388000

Where mine are in

N30 15.325 W97 43.713 (my house)

How do I change the setting so they are the same?

Load them in Mapsource first.

Change your preferences in Mapsource by going to "Edit"/"Preferences"/"Position". This will allow you to select the format.

If you want to enter them directly to you 60CSX you can change the input format by going to "Menu"/"Setup"/"Units" and select the correct format there.

The method using decimals is called Decimal Degrees

The other methods are just different ways of expressing degrees and minutes of latitude and longitude.

The UTM is probably the most logical method of locating yourself.  It is especially useful for hikers since distance is measured in meters within a zone, rather than the more abstract "degrees" measurement.

The .gpx file I sent you was converted from a csv file using http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert

1. I text copied (from screen), the list of waypoints.

2. Pasted into excel

3. Saved as CSV text file

4. Pasted that data into GPSvisualizer file converter

5. It spit out the .gpx file, whic can be opened in MapSource.
