OK, so I had a jury trial a couple weeks ago. The client is a hiker, but doesn't do much stupid stuff. Over lunch, we talked a lot about my stupid escapades. He was shocked that I do not carry so much as a compass, or a watch. Just a topo. I explained that when I want to get away from the city, I REALLY want to get away. He's a techie--carries a SPOT, GPS and Sat phone.
Anyway, we won the trial and as a token of appreciation, I suppose, he sends me a Garmin GPSMAP 62s and a SPOT. So far, my fears about these devices have been confirmed, as the dadgum Garmin didn't come with a written owner's manual, I cannot get the one on-line to open (message is "Bad encrypt dictionary") and I cannot figure out how to make the dadgum thing work.
Anyone know where else I can maybe download the owner's manual other than from Garmin, or any advice on using the gosh darn thing?
You can e-mail me at
jreenan@winstead.com if that helps. Many thanks.
