Google Earth Pro
« on: February 08, 2015, 08:41:16 PM »
Attention!

Ahem! Occasionally, I post extremely helpful tips completely devoid of opinion.

This is one of those occasions.

Go here and get Google Earth Pro for free.

https://geoauth.google.com/gev0/free_trial.html

The link above will get you an authentic, fully legit license key. You have to sign up for an account to receive the license key. You may select whatever descriptive terms you want in the pull down menu boxes. Your key will arrive shortly.

Ignore the "trial" language in the URL, and any that you may encounter as you install the program.

What used to cost $399 a year is now zero, zilch, zip, nada.

Keep in mind you won't get any better imagery; everyone sees the same stuff.

However, Pro lets you do more advanced manipulation of data like measurements and many other things I haven't even explored yet.

This concludes my effort today at making your digital lives better.

Enjoy!!!

If you use MapSource or BaseCamp, do NOT uninstall Google Earth if you want to view direct from either of those applications. Leave both versions installed. Garmin needs an update before it can point to Google Earth Pro. I suspect a quick registry hack could fix it, but I'll wait and see how fast Garmin acts first.

Strange.. I didn't seem to have that problem with BaseCamp. It opened Pro automatically.
I did leave both versions installed though, so not sure what would happen if I uninstalled non-pro version.
