Scribble Maps

Scribble Maps is a very neat tool.  It allows you to draw freehand on a map.  I recently used it to trace a trail while viewing the Terrain view, then I used the site tools to export the freehand trace to a GPX file for use in my GPS.  The traced line was exported as tracks.

Thanks Randall, that is very handy. Saves converting from KML to .gpx on Google Earth.

If you want to convert a .gpx track to a route that can be loaded and followed in GPS, the below utility as one additional step. The GPS will tell you the bearing and distance to the next point in sequence as you navigate along your route. A track does not have that capability and is best used a a record. When you use the "track back" feature in your GPS, it actually converts your active track into a route. This utility does the same thing, but works with any track.

 Convert Track

Reduces the number of points in a GPS tracklog by removing points with a nearby direction and saves the result as tracklog, route, or Google Earth kml file.
